ADAIR COUNTY R-II NEWSLETTER
JANUARY 2018 Brashear,
Missouri
Missourians benefit
every day from the dedicated energies and countless hours devoted by a group of
more than 3,600 men and women from communities across the state. These public
servants are elected by local constituents and do not receive compensation for
their tireless efforts. These men and women are the local school board members
of Missouri.
During the week of
January 21-27, communities across the state will honor the dedicated service of
their local boards of education during School Board Recognition Week. The goal is to build awareness and
understanding of the important function an elected board of education plays in
communities and school. All Missouri citizens are asked to recognize the
important contributions of these men and women and focus attention on the vital
role these public officials play in the education of Missouri’s children.
The students and
staff of the Adair County R-II School District extend sincere appreciation for
the dedication of those who serve on the district’s Board of Education.

State law (Section 160.522, RSMo) requires the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education to publish an annual “report card” about each school district, each school building, and each charter school in the state. The reports are designed to satisfy state and federal requirements for the disclosure of statistics about students, staff, finances, academic achievement, and other indicators. The information is compiled from data reported to the Department by local school districts.
The 2017 district report card is now available at: http://mcds.dese.mo.gov/guidedinquiry/School%20Report%20Card/District%20Report%20Card.aspx. Simply choose School year 2017, District Adair Co. R-II (001-092) and click View Report.
If you would like a copy of this report card, contact the district office at 323-5272.

The Importance of Goals
Research
has shown that the simple act of writing a goal greatly increases the chances
of accomplishing the goal. If the goal is broken down into action steps and the
action steps are tracked, goals have an even greater percentage of success.
At
school, your child may write his or her academic and personal goals in a
Leadership Notebook. You will gain a lot of information on how your child is
doing if you ask your child to tell you about his or her goals. The goals
chosen are meaningful to your child so be sure to practice Habit 5: Seek First
to Understand, Then to Be Understood.
The
Leadership Notebook idea can also be used in your home. Create goals such as
reading together, eating dinner at the table, or doing an activity together.
Involve everyone in the family in choosing a meaningful goal and action steps.
Post the goal and the action steps in a visible place and be sure to track and
celebrate progress!
