NETSMARTZ ONLINE WORKSHOP

The Missouri State Library, Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) and Missouri Research and Education Network (MOREnet) are happy to announce the availability of the NetSmartz Workshop interactive computer activities and supporting materials for Missouri. According to a 2000 report from the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children, Online Victimization: A Report on Our Nation's Youth, approximately one in five children received a sexual solicitation or approach over the Internet in one year. Children, parents and educators must inform themselves about potential dangers children can face while surfing the Internet. The NetSmartz Workshop, a program of the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children and Boys & Girls Clubs of America, is an interactive, educational resource for youth (ages 5 to 17), parents, guardians, educators and law enforcement. The program uses age-appropriate, 3-D activities to teach young people how to stay safer on the Internet. Read a story about NetSmartz and Missouri at http://www.more.net/about/articles/netsmartz.html. Visit the NetSmartz and Missouri website at http://www.netsmartz.org/education/mo/.
