LOCAL FBLA CHAPTER ATTENDS SLC
Members
of the Brashear Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) Chapter recently
attended the 2012 Missouri FBLA Leadership Conference held on April 22, 23, and
24 in Columbia, Missouri.
FBLA
is a career and technical student organization for all high school students
participating in business programs.
Over 2,750 members and advisers representing 426 chapters throughout the
state met to elect state officers, transact business of the state chapter,
participate in leadership and career workshops, and compete in the state
leadership awards program.
Winning
recognition at the state conference was Ashton Wolter, 5th place, Personal
Finance. Martha Reese is the local
chapter adviser.
HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATION
The
Adair County R-II High School graduation ceremony will be held in the high
school gymnasium on Sunday, May 20, 2012 at 3:00 p.m. The public is cordially invited to attend.
The
eighteen seniors include Daniel Anderson, Joe Clarkson, Mary Coy, Rachael
Ferguson, Kaitlin Guffey, Cierra Hines, Christopher Longano, Kristen Love,
Chandi March, Katie Smith, Chloe Sykes, Morgan Taylor, Nick Thomas, Taren
Treasure, Ashley Watson, Katie Watson, Ashton Wolter, and Joseph Woods.
The
receiving line for the graduates will be in the cafeteria immediately following
the ceremony. In addition, National
Honor Society will be hosting a punch and cookie reception.
Good
luck Seniors in all your future endeavors!
SIXTH GRADE PROMOTION
The
Adair County R-II sixth grade promotion ceremony will be held in the high
school gymnasium on Friday, May 11,
2012 at 7:00 p.m. The public is
welcome to attend.
The
nineteen sixth graders include Mary Borntrager, Willow Frazier, Ty Gottman,
Leah Grissom, Skylar Haskell, Harley Hayes, Shalia Kennison, Samuel Kerby,
Celia Kincaid, Morgan Magruder, Megan McHenry, Harli Mihalevich, Bailey Moncrief, Devin Morrison, Travis
Nilson, Lauren Platz, Hannah Reeves, Nathaniel Stewart, and Zane Sykes.
A
reception will be held for the students in the cafeteria following promotion.
PTC NEWS
On
Tuesday, May 22nd, from 5:00-8:00 p.m., Brashear PTC will receive 10% of the
sales at Colton’s Steakhouse in Kirksville.
This includes curbside service too.
So plan to enjoy a delicious meal and know that you will be supporting
our playground fundraising drive. Be
sure to tell your friends and family!
TIGER PRIDE
Congratulations
to the following students who won first place at District Industrial Arts
contest in Moberly on Friday, April 20:
Jacob Woods—open division; T.J. Harrelson, Chloe Sykes, Sidney
Sykes—woodworking; Andy Clarkson—leather working; and Gabe Thomas and Dalton
Hocker—technology exploration. These
students are eligible to compete at the State Industrial Arts contest on
Tuesday, May 8 in Lake Ozark.
The
Brashear Concert Band received an “Excellent” II rating at the MSHSAA State
Large Group Festival in Hannibal.
Pieces performed were the “Rough Riders March” and “Laramie: A Western
Overture”. The students were also made
to sightread and performed strongly on all three! Several music students performed at the MSHSAA District Solo and
Small Ensemble Festival in Kirksville.
The following won “II” ratings:
Christopher Longano-Tuba solo; Chloe Sykes-Alto Saxophone solo; Ashlee
Fortney-Bass Clarinet solo; Abby Hall-Clarinet solo; and Rose Cloud, Sidney
Sykes, Madeline Potter, and Abby Hall-Mixed Woodwind Quartet.
Congratulations
to Cierra Hines for winning three awards at the “Celebrate the Artist in You”
Art Show held Tuesday, April 10 in Kirksville.
She earned a $75 gift card for her scratch art “Tree of Hope”, a $20
gift card for her tube sculpture “Fun”, and $20 for her silver wood sculpture
“Downtown”.
Congratulations
to Hayden Housman on winning the Golden Shoe at the Tri-County Conference track
meet. The junior high and varsity girls
teams both finished 2nd overall at the meet.
The junior high 4x400 relay team of Robbyn Wagster, Cassy Graham, Sidney
Sykes, and Abi Kerby broke the conference record with a time of 5:00.65. The junior high 4x100 relay team of Mandy
Taylor, Bailey Mihalovich, Casey
Mihalovich, and Skylar Housman broke the conference record with a time of
:57.19. Congratulations to all!
Lunch
refunds will only be given to Seniors on their last day of school. Karla will be sending home bills for those
students with a negative balance in their accounts. Any money remaining in your child(ren)’s account(s) will be
carried over to the 2012-2013 school year.

BLOOD DRIVE
The
American Red Cross and Adair County R-II School will be sponsoring a Blood
Drive on Tuesday, May 1st from 2:00 to 6:00
p.m. at the Keller Building. All
those who attempt to donate will receive a specially designed Red Cross
t-shirt.
Please
stop by and donate!
SCHOOL BOARD REORGANIZES
The
Adair County R-II Board of Education met in special session on Monday, April
16, 2012, to swear in new members and reorganize. The officers elected are as follows: President, Roger Thompson; Vice President, Curtis Gordon;
Secretary, Traci Hill; Treasurer,
Alissa Treasure; and Board Delegate, Jim Reeves. Members are Duayne Housman and Aaron Zentz.
CAREERS ON WHEELS
This
years Careers on Wheels fair will be held on Thursday, May 3rd from 12:30-3:00
p.m. Students K-6 (and high school if
they choose) will be able to tour our fair filled with all kinds of careers
that have "wheels" or vehicles with them. The fair will also include a special visit from a different kind
of "wheels" that will be landing on the baseball field! If you have ideas on jobs that could be
displayed during this day or are willing to participate with your
"wheels", please contact Mrs.
Grissom at

ext. 29.

includes milk and juice. Students may
choose cereal instead of the breakfast item offered. The following items are offered daily for students to choose from

MUSIC NEWS
Kindergarten
has been working on their songs for the upcoming Kindergarten Circus.
1st
grade has been playing with rhythm instruments, reading rhythms and following a
conductor.
2nd
grade has also been using instruments, and have recently constructed and played
their own instruments in the Native American style.
3rd
grade is learning to sing, as well as about our national anthem.
4th
grade is still climbing up the "Recorder Karate" ladder, and I am
very proud to announce this year's first three black belts: Tanna Garlock, John
Gerhold, and Averi Acton.
5th
grade is practicing up for their D.A.R.E. graduation.
6th
grade is learning their songs for the 6th grade promotion ceremony.
8th
grade music class has been learning some basic guitar skills. Thanks to those who have let me borrow
guitars for this purpose.
All
band and vocal activities are hard at work for the upcoming Spring Concert, on
Thursday, May 10, with the Concert Band preparing to compete again at the Music
in the Parks Festival at Worlds of Fun on Saturday, May 12.
