READING WEEK CELEBRATION
The
theme this year is “Reading Road Trip” and will take place November
12-16. The reading week kickoff will
be on Monday, November 12 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. The plan (weather permitting) is for the evening to be outside
around the ball field. Cookies, hot
cider, and coffee will be served from the concession stand (free of charge
naturally).
Look for
more information and a reading packet to go home with your child(ren) on
Friday, November 9th. Hope to see you here on November 12th!
PTC NEWS
The
PTC met October 15, 2012 in the cafeteria with 6 members present. The fundraisers were discussed. The pasta sales earned us $577, Colton's
Night brought us $323, and Hollister Incorporated donated $100 to our
playground. A grant may be a better
option for our needs, space, and funds and is being checked into at this
time. There isn't a meeting scheduled
for November. Thank you to everyone for
all of your support!
FBLA NEWS

would like to extend a special thank you to the following people who donated
supplies and/or prizes for the Halloween Carnival held on Saturday, October 13.
Mike and Sara Erwin
Charlene Fisher
Curtis and Tammy Gordon
Bill and Karen Leffler
Jeff McHenry
Jim and Renee Reeves
Gale and Rosalee Rusk
Roger and Dana Thompson
The
weather didn’t provide the best evening to be out and about, but thanks to
everyone who helped support the FBLA Carnival.
A good time was had by all!

FROM THE DESK OF THE SUPERINTENDENT
A
BIG thanks goes to EVERYONE who has helped us with our playground project. We wanted to give an update on our
progress. Currently, we have raised $11,025. Thank you!!!! That is AMAZING!!! The
PTC has been looking through catalogs and searching online for just the right
pieces of equipment for our playground.
With the help of Mark Thompson and Angela Althide, we became aware of a
Solid Waste Management Grant opportunity through the Northeast Missouri
Regional Planning Commission office in Memphis, MO. This is a matching grant and would allow us to get
"more" for our playground and our children. The grant itself is centered on recycled materials and education
on recycling to our students. We will
be applying for this grant once the grant cycle opens.
We
want to make sure that we use our resources wisely and get the most playground
possible for our children. So, we do
not want to rush into "buying", but do more planning in regards to
selecting the best possible playground pieces for Brashear Elementary. Our goal is still to break ground in the
spring or summer of 2013 and have a new playground structure up and ready for
use in the fall of 2013.
Again...a
big THANKS to everyone!
