As the winter season approaches, we are reminding parents and students to listen to the local media stations to check on "early dismissals" and/or "no school" bulletins. This information will be given to KTVO television, KIRX radio, KTUF radio, KRXL radio, KRES radio of Moberly and KMEM radio of Memphis. These stations will present dismissal information as soon as decisions have been made.
We have several 2000 yearbooks still available for sale. The cost
is $26.00. If you would like to purchase one, please send a check
with your child or stop by one of the high school offices.
Students enrolled in the Public Communications class under the
direction of Kathy Erwin will be featured at the October 26 PTS
meeting. Student performers include: Ashley Alexander, Amber Dailing,
Rachel Deacon, Lacey Hale, Shelly Howard, Jackie Knowles, Trevor
Mills, Trent Platz, Chelsie Potter, Meghan Salter, Kate Slavin,
and Jesse Turner. The public is welcome to attend.
The Adair County Health Department will be at the school on Thursday, October 19th from 12:30 to 3:00 p.m. to offer flu shots. Out of county residents will be charged a $10 fee.
We will be celebrating National School Lunch Week during the week of October 16th through the 20th. Please come and enjoy lunch with your child. Miss DeRosear
Brashear Elementary is now Brashear Accelerated Elementary. What
does that mean? Well, the Accelerated School is a process to better
enable a district (in this case, our elementary) to focus on specific
goals and work together to achieve these goals. The Accelerated
School is comprised of three principles, Unity of Purpose, Empowerment
with Responsibility, and Building on Strengths.
Unity of Purpose means everyone (parents, teachers, administrators,
staff, community, school board, students, etc.) is working toward
the same goal. It means having a vision and making sure the vision
is always in mind when decisions are made.
Empowerment with Responsibility means everyone is responsible
for making decisions and carrying out plans. This is where the
committees, called Cadres, work on the established priorities
set forth in the vision statement.
Building on Strengths is using all resources available, focusing
on individual talents to help move the group toward the vision
and goals. Again, this means everyone is needed because separate
we might be weak but together we are strong!
Ann DeRosear, Anne Gramling, and Becky Thomas spent a week in
training this past July for the Accelerated Schools Project. There
will be additional information given about the governance structure
at the P.T.S. meeting on Thursday, September 28 at 7:00 p.m. There
will also be an opportunity to help by agreeing to serve on a
Cadre (committee). Please come and hear more about Brashear Accelerated
School.
Pursuant to the requirements of state law 162.997-999-RSMo, the
State Board of Education is required to appoint a surrogate parent
as such time as it becomes evident that a child with a disability
does not have a parent or a person acting as a parent to participate
in matters dealing with the provision of special education. For
purposes of surrogate parent appointment, "parent" is
defined as a biological parent, a guardian, or a person acting
as a parent of a child including, but not limited to, a grandparent,
a step parent, or a foster parent with whom the child lives. The
term does not include the State if the child is a ward of the
State. The term does not include a person whose parental rights
have been terminated.
The local school district is given the responsibility to determine
when a child with a disability who requires special education
and who resides in the District is without a parent. The District
must notify the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary
Education of the need to appoint a surrogate parent. Training
for persons serving as surrogate parents will be provided by the
Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education and
the District.
If you are interested in volunteering to serve as a surrogate
parent, more information can be obtained from the Districts' surrogate
parent contact person - the person responsible for the District's
special education program.
