from 1:15 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. If you have not already done so, please
contact the appropriate office to schedule an appointment for your
child(ren). You will be able to pick up
first quarter grade cards at the time of your conference.

note that we will not have school on Friday, October 21, 2011.
BOX TOPS
The Brashear Elementary Student Council
will be collecting Box Tops again this year.
Last October, we sent in a collection of Box Tops worth $625. In February, we sent in another collection
worth $590. This year we would like to
set our goal again at $1,400. With your
help, we will be able to reach that goal.
Every Box Top you collect is worth $.10. Thank you for taking the time to clip Box Tops, the money we
receive really does help the school.
PUBLIC
ANNOUNCEMENT SURROGATE PARENT PROGRAM
Pursuant
to the requirements of state law 162.997-999-RSMo, the State Board of Education
is required to appoint a surrogate parent as such time as it becomes evident
that a child with a disability does not have a parent or a person acting as a
parent to participate in matters dealing with the provision of special
education. For purposes of surrogate
parent appointment, “parent” is defined as a biological parent, a guardian, or
a person acting as a parent of a child including, but not limited to, a
grandparent, a step parent, or a foster parent with whom the child lives. The term does not include the State if the
child is a ward of the State. The term
does not include a person whose parental rights have been terminated.
The
local school district is given the responsibility to determine when a child
with a disability who requires special education and who resides in the
District is without a parent. The District
must notify the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education of
the need to appoint a surrogate parent.
Training for persons serving as surrogate parents will be provided by
the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education and the District.
If you
are interested in volunteering to serve as a surrogate parent, more information
can be obtained from the Districts’ surrogate parent contact person - the
person responsible for the District’s special education program.

supplies, P.E. equipment, classroom supplies, etc. Collection boxes are located in both the High School and
Elementary offices as well as Willowbend and the Brashear Post Office. Please help us take advantage of this new
program and help out our school and students.
TRIVIA NIGHT

CALLING ALL
COMMUNITIES
U.S. Cellular has launched their third annual $1 million Calling
All Communities campaign. Through
October 6, anyone 18 years or older can visit any U.S. Cellular store and ask
an associate for a code to vote for their favorite school at
uscellular.com. Each online voting code
gives people the opportunity to vote once daily until the campaign ends. The voting cards will feature a peel-off
that gives thousands of lucky supporters a chance to cast two votes a day or be
one of 18 people to win one year of free U.S. Cellular wireless service. In addition, 2,000 randomly-selected voters
will be awarded a $25 U.S. Cellular debit card simply for supporting their
school. No purchase is necessary, and
you don’t have to be a U.S. Cellular customer to vote. Tell all your family and friends about this
program and have them vote daily for Adair County R-II!
ADOPT-A-CHILD

FROM THE DESK
OF THE SUPERINTENDENT
Way to
GO!!!!!! Congratulations! For the 6th consecutive year, Adair County
R-II Schools in Brashear have met all 14 areas in the Annual Performance Report
from the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. Receiving a perfect score for 6 consecutive
years is an accomplishment that our students, staff, and community can take
great pride in! Job well done! The Annual Performance Report covers areas
of testing, attendance, drop-outs, courses offered, ACT scores, college placement,
and career education placement. This
report on schools is what determines whether schools retain accreditation. We are happy to report that we are again
Accredited With Distinction in Performance.
This
school year is off and going strong! We
are well into the “swing” of school now.
Classes are going strong and students are in the routine of school…some
more willing than others! Our sports
teams are going strong. Congratulations
to the Lady Tiger Softball team…Tri County Conference Champions!!! Great job Ladies and Coach Schneider! Our Tiger Baseball team finished the season
with a big win against Bevier…14 – 13.
Way to go Tigers!!! I would also
like to congratulate Alli Garrett for being selected to the Northeast Missouri
Freshman/Sophomore All-District Choir.
As we
continue with the task of educating our young people, it is important to
understand that just like the saying goes, “It takes a village to raise a
child”, we are all in this most important task together. The child has responsibility in his/her own
education. The school has
responsibility in a child’s education.
The parents have responsibility in a child’s education. And, the community has a responsibility,
too. It truly does take everyone working
together for our children, our students, to succeed and learn. Thanks for your help and support!
Failure
is always a part of learning. So,
encourage your child even more when they fail, keep lifting them up, and
praising them for their determination.

Dear
Parents and Friends of Brashear Elementary School,
We have been remodelling our school
playground over the last few years, starting in 2008. Many old pieces of equipment have been replaced. Over the last 3 years, we have made $10,709
in changes and additions to our playground using money raised from various
fundraisers and donations. We would
like to install 1 large combination play structure to replace the existing
wooden structure which will complete our renovations and make our playground a
place where children will have the safe, stimulating and healthy opportunities
to play that they so need and deserve. We
really need your help.
We have set a $25,000 fundraising
target for the playground project. So
far, we have $4,026 from previous fundraising efforts. We are also researching grant possibilities
to help with the cost. In short, we
need to raise $20,974. Our goal is to
raise this amount by December 2011 in hopes to order and install the new
equipment during the summer of 2012.
A donation from your family or
company to the Adair County R-II Playground Fund would be very much
appreciated. Your donation will have a
direct impact on the health and happiness of our children. All donations of $10 or more will receive a tax
receipt. With a donation of $50
or more, your family or company can become an official school sponsor. As a sponsor, your contribution will be
gratefully acknowledged in our “School News” bulletins, on our school website,
in the local newspaper and on a permanent plaque that will display your family
or company name and express our heartfelt thanks.
Levels of Sponsorship

Gold $500

We wish to
thank you in advance for your support of this project. You can mail your

Be sure and include contact
