ICE CAMPAIGN
In April 2005, a National "ICE" Awareness Campaign
was launched in the U.K. by mobile phone service provider Vodafone with the
endorsement of Falklands War hero Simon Weston, and the movement reached
critical mass in the wake of the July 7, 2005 terrorist bombings in London. The
idea is now beginning to catch on in other countries, including the U.S.A. (as
reported in the Washington Post).
How it works!
Paramedics will turn to a victim’s cell phone for clues to that person’s
identity. You can make their job much
easier with a simple idea that they are trying to get everyone to adopt: ICE.
ICE stands for In Case of Emergency. If you add an entry in the contacts list in
your cell phone under ICE, with the name and phone number of the person that
the emergency services should call on your behalf, you can save them a lot of
time and have your loved ones contacted quickly. It only takes a few moments of your time to do.
Paramedics know what ICE means and they look for it immediately.
ASBESTOS REPORT
The district must ensure that students and/or their
guardians are informed about asbestos inspections, reinspections, surveillance,
response actions and post-response action activities at least once a year.
The most recent Asbestos Reinspection will be available in
the district office for public viewing during business hours.

BOOST AND BUCKLE
TO ARRIVE ALIVE
A new Missouri law, effective August
28, 2006, says your child must be in a booster seat if they are ages 4-7
years old, unless they are 80 pounds or 4’9” tall.
Missouri’s booster seat law requires
children who have outgrown a child safety seat to be secured in a booster seat
while traveling in a motor vehicle.
The fine for violating this law is
$50 plus court costs, which far exceeds the cost of many booster seats.
This does not apply to students four
years of age or older who are passengers on a school bus designed for carrying
eleven passengers or more and which is manufactured or equipped pursuant to
Missouri Minimum Standards for School Buses.
The Adair County R-II buses do meet this standard.
For more information, call the
Missouri Department of Transportation at 800-800-2358 or go to

PERFORMANCE & ACHIEVEMENT SYSTEM FOR SUCCESS (P.A.S.S.
PROGRAM)
Mission: To develop and implement a system to provide
“extra help” on an as needed basis, to enable all students to achieve and
succeed as we raise academic standards and enhance the educational program at
Brashear High School.
What: 60 minutes of “extra help” provided by
teaching staff at BHS
When: It will begin after the first 3-week
progress reports are issued during first quarter and run for the rest of the
school year. P.A.S.S. opportunities
will be scheduled after school three days each week, as arranged by the
P.A.S.S. teacher, from 3:15 to 4:15.
Who: Those students who receive a “D” or “F” at
the time of progress reports will be required to attend P.A.S.S. two (2) days a
week, per class, (maximum of three (3) days per week) for a minimum of 10
calendar days. At the end of 10
calendar days, students may ask their teacher to refigure their grade. If it is above a D, they may be released
from the P.A.S.S. program. If their
grade is a D or below, they will remain in the P.A.S.S. program until the end
of the 3-week grade period.
Teachers
may assign a student to P.A.S.S. if they are behind in their class or if their
grade drops below 70% at anytime during the quarter.
Failure to
attend a P.A.S.S. will result in consequences.
These could include but are not limited to: reassignment to another P.A.S.S. session, detention, ISS, OSS, or
